George Hincapie (BMC Racing Team) wygrał królewski etap wyścigu USA Pro Cycling Challenge. Nowym liderem został Tejey Van Garderen (HTC-Highroad).

Etap prowadził z Gunnison do Aspen, a jego długość to 209.8km. Trasa prowadziła m.in przez przełęcz Independance Pass, która jest położona na wysokości powyżej 3500 metrów n.p.m.

Od samego startu, było wiele ataków. W końcówce najgroźniejsza była akcja Rafaela Infantino (EMP – Une),  Toma Danielsona (Garmin Cervélo) i Leviego Leipheimera (Radioshack).  Trójkę doścignęła jednak grupka faworytów.

Na ostatnich kilometrach, odskoczyła od niej kolejna, tym razem sześcioosobowa grupka, której nie udało się dogonić. Po minięciu czerwonego trójkąta, mocniej na pedały nacisnął Hincapie i nie dał się już dogonić rywalom. Druga pozycja dla nowego lidera Tejaya Van Garderena. Trzecie miejsce zajął Thomas Danielson (Team Garmin-Cervelo). Sylwester Szmyd (Liquigas-Cannondale), stracił dziś ponad 11 minut, zajmując 96. miejsce.

Dla doświadczonego Georga Hincapie, to pierwsze zwycięstwo od 30 sierpnia 2009.r, kiedy to zdobył tytuł mistrza Stanów Zjednoczonych.

W generalce, młody Amerykanin ma 16 sekund przewagi nad Hincapi`m. Tom Danielson, traci do lidera 22 s.
