Regan Gough (An Post Chain Reaction) wygrał piąty etap An Post Rás, a nowym liderem został James Gullen (JLT Condor).
Piąty etap irlandzkiego wyścigu był najdłuższym w tegorocznej edycji. Kolarze na trasie Buncrana – Dungloe musieli pokonać ponad 181 kilometrów.
Dopiero po kategoryzowanych podjazdach wykrystalizowała się ucieczka w składzie: Cameron Meyer (Australia), Edward Laverack i James Gullen (obaj JLT Condor), Regan Gough (An Post Chain Reaction), Ike Groen i Daan Meijers (obaj Delta Cycling Rotterdam). W generalce Gullen i Groen mieli ten sam czas co lider i dla nich ten odjazd najbardziej był na rękę.
25 kilometrów przed metą czołowa grupa miała już ponad 3 minuty przewagi i wiadomo było, że powalczą oni o etapowy triumf a także o koszulkę lidera. Tempa nie wytrzymał Groen i ułatwił sprawę Gullenowi. Na finiszu najszybszy był Regan Gough (An Post Chain Reaction). Drugi był Cameron Meyer (Australia), a trzeci Daan Meijers (Delta Cycling Rotterdam).
James Gullen (JLT Condor) stracił do zwycięzcy sześć sekund, ale to on został nowym liderem wyścigu.
