Niespełna 100 kilometrów na rundach wokół Madrytu mieli do pokonania kolarze na ostatnim etapie hiszpańskiego wyścigu. Runda miała niespełna 6 kilometrów i usytuowany był na niej dość stromy podjazd.

Niedługo potem doskoczyła do nich para Ivan Martinez (Equipo Bolivia) i Oscar Sanchez (Dare Viator Partizan).
Szybkie tempo sprawiło, że liczebność grupki powoli spadała, a ostatecznie peleton przejął stery na ostatnim okrążeniu. Jak można się było spodziewać doszło do sprintu i zdecydowanie najszybszy był Jasha Sutterlin (Movistar), który wyprzedził Juana Jose Lobato (Hiszpania) i Eduarda Pradesa (Caja Rural Seguros RGA). Piąty na mecie był Oscar Sevilla (Medellin Inder), a siódmy Raul Alarcon (W52/FC Porto). Dzięki wyższej lokacie doświadczony kolarz wyprzedził swojego rodaka w klasyfikacji generalnej i triumfował w Vuelta a la Comunidad de Madrid.
