Mark Cavendish (HTC-Highroad) po finiszu z peletonu został zwycięzcą Tour of Britain. Drugi był Mark Renshaw (HTC-Highroad), a trzeci Theo Bos (Rabobank).
Pierwszy etap wyścigu z Peebles – Dumfries o długości 170 kilometrów zwyciężył Mark Cavendish, który tylko dzięki zgodzie dyrektora Vuelta a Espana mógł stanąć na starcie brytyjskiej etapówki. „Cavs” wycofał się z Vuelty na czwartym etapie.
„To niesamowite wygrać pierwszy etap, dzięki temu założę jutro koszulkę lidera. Ten wyścig to dobre przygotowanie przed zbliżającymi się Mistrzostwami Świata, w Kopenhadze pogoda może być podobna jak tu, deszcz, zimno i silny wiatr. Ja taką aurę lubię. Na Vuelcie nie mogłem znieść upałów” – powiedział triumfator pierwszego etapu.
W wyścigu jedzie dwóch naszych rodaków. Bartosz Huzarski (Team NetApp) był 30, a Marcin Białobłocki (Motorprint) zajął 81 pozycję.
