Schaal Sels, czyli ciężki belgijski klasyk odbył się dzisiaj po raz 91. Polscy kibice mogli dopingować ekipę CCC Sprandi Polkowice.

W roku ubiegłym wyścig ukończyło tylko 19 kolarzy, co może przybliżyć w jakich warunkach trzeba się było ścigać. . Na rundach wokół Merksem było do pokonania 195 kilometrów, często po odcinkach brukowanych i …bezdrożach. Ponadto kolarze musieli zmagać się z prawie dwudziestoma krótkimi podjazdami.

Dość szybko uformowała się ucieczka w składzie: Philipp Walsleben (Beobank-Corendon) , Robbie Van Bakel (Metec-TKH p/b Mantel), Frederik Veuchelen (Wanty – Groupe Gobert), Dries De Bondt (Vérandas Willems), Michael Reihs (Stölting Service Group), Josef Cerny (CCC Sprandi Polkowice), Jacob Scott (An Post – ChainReaction), Jake Kelly (Team Wiggins), Wesley Kreder (Roompot Oranje Peloton) i Brian Van Goethem (Roompot Oranje Peloton).

Kolejne ciężki sektory spowodowały, że ucieczka uszczupliła się, a peleton zmniejszał dystans. Akcja z udziałem kolarza CCC Sprandi Polkowice przeszła do historii na 65 kilometrów przed metą.

Kolejnymi śmiałkami byli: Xandro Meurisse (Wanty-Groupe Gobert), Tim Declercq, Stijn Steels (Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise), Wout Van Aert (Crelan-Vastgoedservice), Taco Van der Hoorn, Coen Vermelfoort (CyclingTeam Join’s – De Rijke), Timothy Dupont (Verandas Willems), Ludwig De Winter, Baptiste Planckaert (Wallonie-Bruxelles), Joeri Stallaert (Team Cibel), Bram Van Goethem (Roompot Oranje Peloton).

6 kilometrów przed metą z czołówki zaatakował znany głównie z przełajów Wout Van Aert (Crelan-Vastgoedservice). Zwycięzca prologu Baloise Belgium Tour nie dał się doścignąć i mógł cieszyć się z drugiego triumfu w sezonie.

Drugi finiszował Timothy Dupont (Verandas Willems), a trzeci Stijn Steels (Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise).

Z ekipy CCC Sprandi Polkowice wyścig ukończy tylko Josef Cerny.
