Matt Goss (HTC-Highroad) wygrał 2. etap oraz został nowym liderem wyścigu Tour of Oman. Australijczyk po finiszu z kilkudziesięcioosobowej grupy pokonał Daniele Bennatiego (Leopard Trek) oraz Edvalda Boasson Hagena (Sky Procycling).
Peleton miał dziś do przejechania odcinek o długości 139km z Muscat do Al Wutayya. Mniej więcej w połowie dystansu, na niewielkim podjeździe, na którym wiał mocny wiatr, zasadnicza grupa podzieliła się na dwie części. Na przodzie zostało 71. kolarzy gdzie jechali m.in.: Heinrich Haussler (Garmin-Cervelo), Danilo Hondo (Lampre – ISD), Daniele Bennati, Fabian Cancellara (Leopard Trek), czy też faworyci do generalki: Robert Gesink (Rabobank Cycling Team), Alexandre Vinokourov (Pro Team Astana) czy Patrik Sinkewitz (Farnese Vini – Neri Sottoli).
Natomiast za czołówką zostali m.in. lider wyścigu Theo Bos (Rabobank) oraz Mark Cavendish (HTC-Highroad).
Na finiszu najlepszy okazał się młody Goss, który pokonał znacznie bardziej doświadczonego Bennatiego i kolejnego z kolarzy młodego pokolenia, Boasson Hagena. Dzięki bonifikacie Australijczyk został nowym liderem i ma teraz cztery sekundy przewagi nad Włochem oraz sześć nad Norwegiem.
Trzeci etap liczy sobie 208 km w południowym Omanie. Zaczyna się i kończy w miejscowości Sur.
