Zwycięstwem Elii Vivianiego (Quick – Step Floors) zakończył się jednodniowy wyścig De Panne, rozgrywany w tym roku po raz pierwszy w takiej formule. Podium uzupełnili Pascal Ackermann i Jasper Philipsen (Axeon Hagens).
Jednodniowy format wyścigu w De Panne mocno zmienił plan rywalizacji. Ze względu na brak możliwości poprowadzenia peletonu przez całą okolicę, organizatorzy zdecydowali się rozpocząć zabawę w Brugii, a w połowie dystansu urozmaicić trasę kilkoma dobrze znanymi podjazdami. Mimo to było prawie pewne, że o zwycięstwie zdecyduje sprint z peletonu.
Stosunkowo szybko, od peletonu oderwała się szóstka harcowników. Byli to David Boucher, Ylber Sefa (Tarteletto), Brian van Ghoetem (Roompot), Conor Dunne (Aqua Blue Sport), Sean Bennett (Axeon Hagens) i Tanner Putt (Unitedhealthcare). Jeszcze przed wjazdem na pierwszy oznakowany podjazd, uciekinierzy mieli 9 minut przewagi, lecz w peletonie wszystko kontrolować starali się kolarze Lotto Soudal i Direct Energie.
Niewysokie tempo w grupie zasadniczej sprzyjało swoistemu sprawdzaniu nogi. Na Kemmelbergu mocniej pociągnęli Luke Durbridge (Mitchelton – Scott) i Nikolas Maes (Lotto Soudal), lecz zaraz po przejechaniu wzniesienia, obaj wrócili do peletonu. Kilkadziesiąt kilometrów później, upadek zanotował za to Kenny Dehaes (WB Aquaprotect), który po zwycięstwie w GP de Denain był zaliczany do szerokiego grona faworytów.
Co ciekawe, 10 kilometrów przed metą, ograniczona już ucieczka wciąż miała 30 sekund przewagi. Wówczas mocniej pociągnęli kolarze Lotto Soudal, którzy wyczuli szansę na porwanie stawki na wiatrach. Chwilę później Belgów wsparli kolarze BORA – hansgrohe, co zaowocowało rozerwaniem peletonu i doścignięciem uciekinierów. Co ważne, w czołówce znajdowało się wciąż dwóch kolarzy CCC Sprandi Polkowice.
Ostatecznie o zwycięstwie zadecydował sprint z mocno ograniczonego peletonu. W nim najlepszy okazał się Elia Viviani (Quick – Step Floors), który w bardzo inteligentny sposób pokonał Pascala Ackermanna (BORA – hansgrohe). Trzeci na metę wpadł Jasper Philipsen (Axeon Hagens).
