Linus Gerdemann (MTN – Qhubeka) został zwycięzca 4. etapu wyścigu Tour d’Azerbejdżan z metą na podjeździe w Pirqulu. Josef Cerny zameldował się na mecie na 11.miejscu.
Przedostatni, czwarty etap wyścigu Dookoła Azerbejdżanu rozpoczął się w Qabali i po przejechaniu 115 kilometrów trasy, kończył się 20-kilometrowym podjazdem w Pirqulu. Mimo, że kolarze mieli do pokonania niewielki dystans, to etap ten okazał się najtrudniejszym ze wszystkich etapów całego wyścigu.
Pierwsze 60 kilometrów trasy prowadziło po lekko pagórkowatym terenie co bardzo sprzyjało kolarzom którzy próbowali odjechać z peletonu. Przed pierwszą lotna premia zaatakowała 6-osobowa grupka kolarzy do której zabrał się m.in. Josef Cerny. Na kolejnych kilometrach dojechała do nich następna grupa z Gerdemannem, Zakarinem i Roginą. Połączone grupy zaczęły dość mocno ze sobą współpracować co pozwoliło im uzyskać znaczna przewagę nad peletonem. Na 50 kilometrze trasy przewaga wynosiła ponad 3 minuty.
Ostatecznie o losach etapu zadecydował finałowy podjazd na metę w Pirqulu. Z każdym kilometrem podjazdu, prowadząca grupa zaczęła się dzielić. Na przedzie jechali razem Gerdemann i Zakarin pozostawiając za plecami pozostałych uczestników odjazdu. Na ostatnich kilometrach kłopoty techniczne z rowerem miał Gerdemann. Jadący razem z nim Zakarin zaczekał na współtowarzysza ucieczki i po usunięciu awarii razem dalej kontynuowali podjazd na metę.
Na mecie jako pierwszy zameldował się Linus Gerdemann (MTN – Qhubeka) a tuż za nim kreskę minął Ilnur Zakarin (Rusvelo). Po prawie dwóch minutach ,do mety dojechał Vitaliy Buts (Kolss Cycling Team).
Josef Cerny minął linię mety na 11. miejscu tracąc do zwycięzcy 2 min. 13 sekund.
Po 4.etapie, liderem wyścigu został Ilnur Zakarin (Rusvelo). Josef Cerny (CCC Polsat Polkowice) traci do lidera 6 min. 10 sek. i w klasyfikacji generalnej zajmuje 24.miejsce.
